AN-instruction laser hair removal

laser hair removal

Instructions pre-sessions

  • For a safer and more effective treatment, sun exposure is not allowed during the 2 weeks preceding the laser session. Therefore, protect the area to be treated with a high protection sunscreen.
  • No electric, depilatory, tweezing or waxing on the areas to be treated 4 weeks before the session.
  • The skin should be cleansed beforehand with water and a mild cleanser. There should be no traces of make-up or deodorant on the areas to be treated.
  • The hair must be shaved at best 1 to 2 days before the session or otherwise the same day. No depilatory cream.
  • Do not shave the face (for women). This will be done at the institute.
  • During the first session, leave an area of about 2cm2 unshaven so that the beautician can observe the hair and adjust the machine’s settings if necessary.
  • Avoid treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, fillers, botox 2 to 4 weeks in advance.

Contraindications

  • Taking tanning activators or applying self-tanning creams 2 weeks before the session
  • Application of essential oils one week before the session
  • The application of bleaching/depigmenting creams 2 weeks before a session
  • Being pregnant or actively seeking pregnancy
  • Skin diseases such as Vitiligo (skin depigmentation), psoriasis, skin cancer, eczema or dermatitis
  • Taking roaccutane or Vitamin A derivatives such as isotretinoin
  • Being treated with photo-sensitising drugs (they can cause burning and side effects)
  • Active Acne
  • Being diabetic, having heart problems
  • Have haemophilia, herpes, lupus, epilepsy

Instructions post-sessions

  • Avoid exfoliating the area for 48 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid heat sources, including hot showers, saunas and cardio workouts that can produce sweat for 24 hours.
  • Avoid unprotected sun exposure and/or use of sunbeds for at least 3 days after treatment.
  • Use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily
  • Avoid intense workouts, dry saunas and steam rooms.
  • On dense hair areas, you may experience redness (erythema) with a sensation of heat comparable to sunburn. These effects last one to two days at most. Refresh your face with a cold compress, alternating between 20 minutes and 20 minutes off. Dry your face well afterwards and then use the soothing gel. Tip: You can store the gel in your refrigerator to have an extra cooling effect on the skin.
  • Wear loose clothing to avoid irritation of the treated area.

Instructions between sessions

  • Between sessions, it is essential to avoid “mechanical” removal (tweezers, wax, electrolysis, electric epilator) which would disrupt the hair cycle. If you wish, you can shave (on the face of women, with a small clipper designed for this purpose).
