Skin care routine for oily skin

Oily skin has larger sebaceous glands and a high sebum content. This is genetic. People with oily skin have oil built into the skin. Therefore, the goal is to reduce the activity of the oil by keeping your skin cells lightly hydrated.
In the case of oily skin, oil breeds bacteria and bacteria leads to breakouts.
Oily skin care routine contains ingredients that help control excessive oil production.

Day

CleanserCleanse your skin three times a day if possible. The more oil, the more breeding ground for blemishes. Use a sulphate-free gel or foam cleanser. The aim is to reduce oil on the skin but not to dry it out.
TonerUse an alcohol-free toner that contains ingredients such as sodium PCA (a humectant to retain water on the skin).
geranium (an essential oil good for cutting oil) and witch hazel (a natural astringent without the drying effects of alcohol).
SerumAny serum containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) or beta hydroxy acids (BHA) will help reduce the appearance of large pores and lighten dull spots.
Moisturising cream Use an oil-free moisturizer. Your skin’s oil production doesn’t warrant skipping the moisturizer, know this: your skin can actually become oilier when dehydrated, overcompensating.
With that in mind, choose a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer with sodium PCA and glycerin in the ingredient list. These are humectants designed to help your skin retain moisture.
Sunscreen Definitely look for zinc oxide sunscreens with at least SFP 30, as they will leave your skin with a more matte finish. Plus, it’s a natural antibacterial and ideal for those prone to rashes.

Night

Oil-based cleanser This is a step you can skip, even though there are cleansing oils suitable for all skin types.
Water-based cleanserUse sulfate-free cleansers. You can use a charcoal-based cleanser, which will reduce excess oil.
TonerAn alcohol-free toner to help reduce the appearance of pores such as niacinamide.
SerumRetinol is good for oily skin as it helps your pores look smaller with continued use.
Moisturising creamChoose a light, oil-free moisturizer with sodium PCA, hyaluronic acid or glycerin which are humectant ingredients.
OilIt’s good to have on hand in very dry environments like aeroplanes. Use a drop of oil on top of the moisturiser to prevent dryness and extra oil production, but it is not recommended to use it as part of your daily routine.
AdviceIt is recommended to use a gentle clay mask once a week.
Make sure your clay mask doesn’t dry out too much before rinsing it off. If you smile and it breaks into 10,000 pieces, you’ve waited too long and it’s become too dry, it can actually dehydrate your skin.
