Skin care for sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is skin that reddens and irritates easily. It is more delicate skin that should not be treated aggressively.

Day

CleanserA mild, sulphate-free cleansing lotion or soap will clean your skin without disrupting its natural barrier.
TonerLook for an alcohol-free toner (day/night) and active ingredients such as white tea extract, green tea, chamomile, niacinamide, centella asiatica, galactomyces which are calming and anti-inflammatory ingredients.
Beta-glucan is also an ingredient that helps support your skin’s immune system to make it less sensitive over time.
SerumUse a high potency antioxidant serum (look for vitamins E, A and C) during the day to help prevent collagen breakdown. Just be sure to follow up with a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
Moisturising cream When it comes to choosing a moisturiser, make sure you find one that does not contain synthetic fragrances, which can cause irritation and allergic reactions.
Also avoid alcohol and synthetic dyes if your skin is easily irritated.
SunscreenUse a minimum SPF 30 sunscreen if it is not integrated into your moisturiser or make-up base.
Sunscreen is the basis of any routine. It protects the skin against UV aggression. It is also an antioxidant as it acts as a barrier.

Night

Oil-based cleanserIt is important to cleanse the face in two stages to eliminate impurities of two different natures: greasy impurities (make-up, sebum, pollution etc) and hydrophilic impurities (perspiration, dust etc). This is to avoid irritating the skin. The hydrolipidic film is thus preserved. Apply the cleansing oil to the face and massage the face with circular movements, this will activate the blood circulation and at the same time remove traces of make-up and sebum. Then rinse with lukewarm (not hot) water.
Water-based cleanserUse a mild cleanser for hydrophilic impurities (perspiration, dust, etc.) and rinse with warm water.
TonerUse a toning lotion containing anti-inflammatory and moisturising agents.
SerumLook for a moisturizing and humectant serum that contains soothing and anti-inflammatory ingredients.
Moisturising creamLook for moisturising and soothing creams without synthetic fragrances.
OilYou can seal in the moisture with an oil that helps to supplement the skin’s natural oils by hydrating and further smoothing the skin.
AdviceA gel-based mask has a naturally cooler temperature, making it perfect for irritated and inflamed skin. It helps stop inflammation and provides water-based hydration.
Just because you have sensitive skin doesn’t mean you should avoid exfoliation. If glycolic acid is too harsh, try a lactic acid lotion or serum twice a week instead. It is gentler and better for sensitive skin.
