Laser hair removal for dark, pigmented or black skin

Using the latest Tripple IceCool technology, our Nd:YAG wavelength lasers are ideal for dark and black skin.

The laser devices traditionally used for hair removal were incredibly sensitive to both skin colour and melanin, which is why so many darker skinned people did not achieve excellent results with laser hair removal.

Today, the latest laser machines are extremely advanced and sophisticated, with the Nd:YAG laser specially designed to distinguish subtle changes in skin tone, which means it can remove hair regardless of the type of skin you might have. This means safe and effective hair reduction.

A few years ago, laser hair removal was not a serious or safe option for people with darker skin. This changed with the introduction of the Nd Yag laser.

Nd Yag lasers use the 1064 nm wavelength and go further, bypassing the pigmentation of the skin and precisely targeting only the melanin in the absorbing hair, destroying it by heating its blood supply.

Darker skin can be more sensitive and reactive to lasers. The introduction of Nd-Yag 1064nm laser removal technology has revolutionised and reversed the risk that previously existed for people with darker skin. The 1064nm Nd-Yag wavelength also works very well on thick, curly and resistant hair, which is perfect for darker skin.

After 8 to 12 treatments, 85% of the hair would be destroyed. The hair that grows back is finer and grows more slowly.

Laser hair removal is practically painless, it can be compared to the sensation of being touched by a rubber band. A patch test during a laser hair removal consultation will allow you to feel the sensation before starting a laser hair removal treatment.

You will start to see a reduction in hair growth after your first session, this will improve over time as the sessions progress.

Laser hair removal can take from 10 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the area(s) to be treated.

If you have darker skin, you should avoid IPL treatment. This is because IPL treatment projects the light over a large, wide area rather than focusing on the hair follicle as the laser does. This can cause permanent damage to your skin.

It is also less effective than Nd-YAG and you will need more sessions to achieve the same results.

If you have problems with ingrown hairs, laser hair removal is perfect for you. You’ll notice results after the first session and by the end of your course you should have no ingrown hairs. If you have ever used a razor, you can also say goodbye to razor burn and irritation.
