Laser Hair Removal For Men

For some men, body hair, while perfectly normal, is a pain point. But thanks to the latest technology, laser hair removal for men can make it easy to remove hair, from a small area to a full back, and without the usual razor side effects and ingrown hairs. Best of all, it’s permanent, especially if followed by high frequency hair removal.

Laser hair removal is a procedure in which a laser beam is directed at the skin to remove hair and prevent it from growing back.

The fact that the laser acts on the melanin in the follicle means that laser hair removal is more effective on people whose hair is darker in pigment than their skin colour.

Because men tend to have thicker hair, laser hair removal can be a saving grace because of its ability to prevent hair growth without causing razor burn, ingrown hairs or the chronic irritation associated with more common hair removal methods such as shaving or waxing. Aulaser hair removal also reduces maintenance and leaves an overall more natural look; a definite advantage for certain hard-to-reach areas such as the back, ears or genitals.

Back and shoulders: Due to their hard-to-reach nature, laser hair removal can be an optimal way to remove hair in these areas with minimal maintenance.

Beard line and neck: If you are prone to razor burn and are constantly ingrown in the sensitive and volatile neck area, laser hair removal can help maintain a clean beard edge without the need for a razor.

Buttocks: More and more men are turning to permanent laser hair removal for their buttocks.

At B Skin Legacy we use the Fully automatic Tripple IceCool Premium Laser Diode laser 808nm + Alexandrite laser 755nm + Yag laser 1064nm which has the tripple wavelength of Alexandrite, Diode and Nd-Yag. The use of high end lasers means that you will get better and faster results in fewer sessions, to safely remove unwanted hair from most skin types, from very light to deeply pigmented.

To ensure the most effective laser hair removal routine, your pre-treatment consultation with your laser professional will help determine the type of laser best suited to your skin type and hair removal goals. Also be sure to discuss the following: any tendency to scar or form keloids, recent periods spent in the sun that may have caused skin tanning, whether you are prone to cold sores or genital herpes, and any medications you may be taking.

Before the start of the treatment course, we always carry out a patch test during the consultation in order to confirm the parameters adapted to your skin type and to avoid any adverse reaction.

We recommend avoiding topical actives such as acids and retinols for at least a week before your appointment and ensuring that you have not had waxing or depilation of the area for several months prior. Also, and this is also a big issue, avoid the sun and don’t show up with a tan, as tanned skin can increase the risk of laser burns.

On the day of your procedure, you will need to shave the area to be treated down to the skin with a quality shaving cream 24-48 hours beforehand, it is important not to practice before your appointment as this can cause the body to retain heat which can make you very sensitive to the laser.

The procedure itself is fairly simple and straightforward, ranging from a few minutes for a small area, such as the upper lip, to an hour or more for larger areas such as the legs or back. Your beautician will apply a contact gel to your skin to make it easier for the handpiece to glide over the area to be treated. The heat will gradually increase until it reaches 50°C in the follicle to destroy it while keeping the skin surface at a temperature of 25°C thanks to the cooling system built into the laser handpiece.

The pain of laser hair removal for men feels like a rubber band snapping repeatedly against the skin, and varies depending on the area being treated. However, the intensity of the reaction decreases with repeated sessions as the follicles decrease in size and thickness.

You will see results immediately afterwards; however, you will still need a series of treatments to achieve permanent hair reduction. Depending on the area you are treating, this could take 6 to 8 sessions, and sometimes you may even need to touch up afterwards. Treatments are performed 4 to 6 weeks apart to target each hair growth cycle.

Overall, the side effects of laser hair removal are minimal. Some less common side effects include blistering and hypo- and hyper-pigmentation of the skin, so it is essential to be open with your aesthetician and to report any reactions.

After your procedure, the skin will, depending on the person, be red and swollen, but this usually subsides after a few hours.

We recommend keeping your skincare routine gentle and simple: apply ice to reduce pain and swelling if necessary, clean with a mild cleanser and then apply a moisturiser. Also avoid the sun and always apply plenty of SPF 30 or higher sun cream to avoid hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation.

Avoid exercising after your laser appointment, as the excess heat generated can further irritate your skin.
